    All Music Guide Review

The Other Sister is a bittersweet love story with a coming-of-age twist; a feel-good romantic comedy that occasionally overdoes the feel-good bit and goes all sickly sweet. Well, that's about it for the soundtrack, too, for the most part. True to time-tested formula, the lineup is mix and match, and the results, too, predictably enough, are hit and miss. Starting off weak with a trio of soggy songs (among them a Diane Warren song done by the Pretenders -- horrors!), it picks the pace up in the mid-section with the Lemonheads' punky alt-rock version of "Mrs. Robinson" and tracks by Fastball and the Soup Dragons; and finishes strongly with a clutch of slow-burning, jazz-tinged adult pop pieces that complement the mood of the film well. Juliette Lewis makes a game attempt at "Come Rain or Come Shine," while Joan Osborne's "At Last" is a particularly fine effort. But, finally, like all too many soundtracks, The Other Sister, is not sufficiently different from all too many others to be described as really memorable. It's not the worst thing to listen to on a rainy evening in, but not much more. ~ Leslie Mathew, All Music Guide
