The lesser-known greats of all things clawhammer are here well-represented. Whether alone or in small combinations with guitar and fiddle, the wide range of stylistic approaches, even within the relatively small Kentucky region, is a remarkable thing to hear. The fluid, rolling linesof Blanche Coldiron on "Tally Ho!" are followed by the dancing rhythms of Earl Thomas on "Boatin' Up Sandy." But there's plenty more where that came from. While 38 tracks may be more pickin' and grinnin' than some can take in one sitting, it sure is a fine way to pass an evening on the porch. ~ Tim Sheridan, All Music Guide
