If you can't make sense of a 15-minute animated late-night show featuring three anthropomorphic food items joined together as a superhero team and never doing anything very superhero-like, then the soundtrack to their movie won't make any sense, either. One has to well versed in the cruel, ribald, and outrageously funny world of Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force to appreciate the soundtrack to their first feature film, which all adds up to the rolls-off-the-tongue title Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters Colon the Soundtrack. Ballads about being nude delivered by singing milkshakes and singing meatballs butt up against ferocious, rebellious metal (Mastodon, Unearth), good-timing underground hip-hop (Schoolly D, Killer Mike), and unexpected twists and turns like campy intermission music and hilarious skits from the Aqua Teens and their aggressive, oafish, and totally New Jersey neighbor Carl. Hardcore fans of the show -- and there really isn't any other kind -- will enjoy the familiar anthem "Party Party Party" from Andrew W.K. and "I Want Candy" from nerdcore rapper MC Chris, but they'll probably be disappointed that the remix to Schoolly D's theme for the show isn't an improvement, but a downgrade. Otherwise this is pure flippant subversive joy with a great and rare Hold Steady track given a good home plus few hidden gems that shouldn't be spoiled. Top it off with rockin' Frank Frazetta artwork that idealizes what never should have been idealized, and you've got a perfectly absurd memento of a perfectly absurd film. Plus, with a song title like "I Like Your Booty (But I'm Not Gay)" you just can't go wrong. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
