SHE’S ABOUT TO CROSS MY MIND: The Red Button
Let’s see, Jangly guitar pop, pleasant vocals, Paul Mac bass lines, lyrical sensibility, its music that takes you back in time. That’s right, this CD was recorded in 2006. The Red Button are two amazing singer-songwriters, Seth Swirsky and Mike Riekberg. Together, they have created emotional pop songs that transcend any generation. Infectious melodies intertwined with amazing vocals that will touch the hearts of any one who’s ever heard a Beatle’s song. Even the packaging is retro, from the cover, right down to the tambourine that is on the disc itself. Speaking of tambourine, check out the dreamy tunes like “I Could Get Used to You” and the first single “She’s Going Down”. Their influences are all over the CD, like the upbeat but mellow “Floating By” with its piano opening and the horns reminiscent of Mr. Burt Bacharach. “Hopes Up” sounds like a cross between the Beatles (of course) and Elvis Costello. Over all, this CD is a pleasant listen from front to back and if The Red Button was a baseball player, they just hit one out the park, a grand slam home run, without the use of steroids. The boys of summer have arrived. The Red Button have crossed my mind and home plate. Let’s hope the hits just keep on coming.
