Although Ace emphasized its Englishness and pub rock origins by posing on the album cover in a pub, complete with dartboard and pints of beer in hand, their second album continued to bear the musical influence of America, specifically the Southwestern America of Tulsa's soulful Shelter Records label and people like Leon Russell and J.J. Cale. Theirs was a low-key, percolating approach that would be taken to mass success a few years down the line by Dire Straits. But Time for Another lacked the chief ingredient that had made its predecessor, Five-A-Side, successful: a hit on the order of "How Long." Keyboard player and vocalist Paul Carrack made a couple of valiant attempts, notably on the side-openers "I Think It's Gonna Last" and "No Future in Your Eyes." But Ace was a group of equals in creative participation, if not in talent, and much of the album was given over to the undistinguished contributions of other band members. With this album, the band was on its way to being a one-hit wonder. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
