All Music Guide Review
For some reason or other Universal seems to really be reaching to pour out one of these 20th Century Masters editions for every artist they have on their many label's rosters, and this is a case in point. 1990s acid power quartet Monster Magnet (who presaged Sleep by a few years) issued four albums (and some EPs) for the Universal-distributed A&M Records after buying their deal from Caroline. This collection hastily slaps together a sampling, including two tracks each from 1993's Superjudge and 1995's Dopes to Infinity, five from 1998's Powertrip, and two from their last album for the label, 2001's God Says No -- these are "Heads Explode," which appears in the film Dracula 2000, and "Silver Future" from the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack. No rarities, no B-sides, no nothing. Sure, the price is cheap, but without cuts from the Caroline discs, Spine of God and Tab...25, this is barely a snapshot, let alone a portrait. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
