After he made his comeback, Gene Ammons recorded a series of somewhat commercial albums for Prestige on which he was backed by electric R&B rhythm sections. This particular set finds the veteran tenor joined by electric piano, organ, guitar (either Maynard Parker or Joe Beck), Ron Carter (mostly on electric bass) and drums (Billy Cobham, Idris Muhammad or Mickey Roker). The repertoire, which includes a couple of funky originals, Dave Grusin's "Fuzz" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," is not too inspiring on this LP (as of yet not reissued on CD) but Ammons makes the best of it. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
