Duncan Earl Walters has had the kind of musical career more typical of a woman of an earlier generation, having started out as a performer in his youth, only to give up the footlights for marriage, a family, and a steady day job, and then returned to his first love later in life. By then, he was much too old for a Nashville record label to consider signing, but that didn't keep him from putting out his own recordings. Guardian is his second album, following 2003's Northern Rain, and it once again reveals him to be a country singer with a warm, comfortable baritone capable of turning out Cajun, honky tonk, and straight country tunes of his own composition. Guardian is an unfailingly pleasant collection. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
