Some of the inclusions on Number 1's: Classic Disco are bound to leave the most knowledgeable disco-era DJs scratching their heads: "Wait, that thing went to number one?" With the exception of Michael Sembello's "Maniac" (which topped the pop chart), each track here did reach the top of the disco/club chart. That includes some obvious stuff, like the Village People's "YMCA" and Lipps, Inc.'s "Funkytown," as well as a few songs that haven't remained quite as popular throughout the years -- Love and Kisses' "Thank God It's Friday," the Ritchie Family's "Brazil," Edwin Starr's "Contact," Roberta Kelly's "Trouble-Maker." This isn't the first or even the 20th disco compilation you should pick up, but it's capable of plugging a few gaps. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
