In Flight Radio

Album number two by Brooklyn's In Flight Radio, and there're changes afoot: two new members and a deeper, more pro sound. But naturally friendly, pretty, smart, and talented leader Peira remains the kind of frontwoman who just plain appeals, holding her notes for emphasis in the bigger (this time) choruses after lighter, romantic, breathy cooing in the love song verses. At its best this LP flirts with a deeper, chiming, near-British guitar sound with bits of sparkle and shimmer that set up Peira's fond crooning, like Innocence Mission morphed as a louder rock band. And the reconfigured group gels immaculately. The only qualification is that producer Brian Fulk has smoothed out some of the charming rougher edges of 2006's eponymous debut; fortunately, even cleaned up like this, the group's heart and hummable tunes show themselves with clarity. ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, All Music Guide
