Released after "Love Shack," "Roam" and Cosmic Thing became Top Five smashes, 1979-1989 is an excellent retrospective of the B-52's' greatest videos. Naturally, it relies heavily on Cosmic Thing -- once Fred Schneider's solo hit "Monster" was replaced on later editions by "Deadbeat Club," half of the eight videos were drawn from that commercial breakthrough (the others being "Channel Z," "Love Shack" and "Roam"). That may upset some longtime fans, but everything that's here -- a live version of "Rock Lobster," "Legal Tender," "Song for a Future Generation," "The Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland" -- is delightful. It could have been more comprehensive, but what is here is first-rate. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
