Yeah, everyone knows Mungo Jerry's one big international hit "In the Summertime," although no one really listens to the words, which are, well, opportunistic and far from innocent, and it's one of those songs whose meaning, although clearly stated, zips by unheard thanks to the fun, joyous bounce of the melody and rhythm. But there was way more to Mungo Jerry than that one song, timeless as it has turned out to be. This set features some of Mungo Jerry's key tracks during their mid-'70s run with Dawn Records, a subsidiary of Pye Records. "In the Summertime" is here, along with the chugging, stomping "Baby Jump," the brilliant and Marc Bolan-like "She Rowed," and the wry rockers "Mighty Man" and "Open Up," among others, and although far from complete, this set shows clearly that Mungo Jerry was far from a one-hit wonder. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
