The utter brilliance of the renowned vocal great's first official foray into rock-edged country music should shutter for good the adage that an artist must stick to a single genre to be marketable and successful. Over the years, the world got so used to her glowing interpretations of Broadway standards--and her keen ability to carry on the grand traditions of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand--that any deviation might have been seen as risky or crazy. But the truth is, as the singer puts it, "This isn't so much a departure as it is me getting back to who I really am." The colorful mix of material (from the rousing, gospel-influenced "Back to Life" by superstar pop songwriter Kara DioGuardi to Eder's own explosive, very personal blues-rocker "Waiting for the Fall") and loose and high-spirited arrangements reflect the kind of music that moved her as a child, when she first started playing the guitar and writing songs. Musically, she and producer Billy Jay Stein back up with great integrity and passion her assertion that stepping into the ballgown and singing standards is like playing a role, while this rootsy music is more natural for her. Although the album was released by the great jazz label Verve, songs like the uptempo country jam "Pieces," the jangling "Prayer for Love," and the largely acoustic ballad "If You Believe (The Way I Do)" would find a joyful home on mainstream country radio. Beyond the rootsier songs, Eder engages in some magical cover versions of the heart-tugging parent to child classic "If I Could," Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" (done with equal parts wistfulness and dreamy atmosphere) and, more graceful yet, the Indigo Girls' folk-pop gem "Ghost." While Eder will always be welcome performing with fellow Broadway aficionados Michael Feinstein and Marvin Hamlisch, this stellar journey of the heart should find her making reservations to take the stage at the CMA Festival in Nashville any year now. This is a side of the singer that should stick around for a long time. ~ Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide

Linda Eder-The Other Side of Me This CD was just released on September 30, and this is her 10th CD. She has appeared on Broadway, and has sung at Carnegie Hall. She started her singing career in 1991, and has been going strong ever since. Although she only wrote one song on the CD-“Waiting for the Fall”, she does plan on writing more in the future. “The Other Side of Me” has a hint of country. The lyrics are simple, easy to understand, and realistic. Her voice reminds me of a cross of Sugarland, and Melissa Ethridge minus the gravel. My favorite song is Pieces, which is about being over someone, having had enough of them, and not picking up the pieces anymore, so is a very nice twist. Most of the songs are easy to dance to, and there are several ballads on the CD, so there should be something for everyone!

I just listened to Linda Eder’s new album, “The Other Side Of Me”, for the first time and it blew me away. The first song “Pieces” is such and emotional song that is song from the heart and it grabs your attention for what else is to come on the album.
Linda is a former Star Search winner and starred in the long running musical “Jekyll and Hyde”. This is her 10th album and is song with a country-pop tone. Linda sings with incredible vocals and with the help of her co-producer Billy Jay Stein, have put together a collection of songs on this album to draw any age music lover. They are song from the heart and keep you wrapped in emotions waiting for the next.
I think the best song on the album is “Waiting For The Fall”. It was composed by Linda herself and mixes a little hip-hop in the middle with a bouncy beat. I believe this song will make her a big hit. -

Linda Eder is one of THE premier singers of pop standards and Broadway tunes, and her talent is definitely showcased on this newest release. I hadn't previously listened to her as I'm generally not a fan of "adult contemporary" music. I'm more of a rocker chick, which is why it was so surprising to me that I instantly fell in love with this album.
Eder's voice is so absolutely pure and gorgeous. She maintains the integrity of the standards on the album, while still bringing her own style to the selections. Her original tunes are actually GOOD! "If I Could" is a particular favorite and worthy of some radio time already!
I've been playing the album at work and I can't tell you the number of people who have come over to ask what I'm listening to. This never happens to me at work! I work with some pretty tough musical critics, so this just further convinces me that Linda Eder is as good as I think she is.
This is not an album to be missed. -
