An enduring singles band in the mid- to late '70s, America managed to combine the sweeter edges of the Eagles and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young into an accessible, middle of the road California sound which, if it wasn't exactly innovative, always sounded refreshingly bright coming out of the car speakers. This set combines six of their albums for Warner Brothers, including Hat Trick (1973), Holiday (1974), Hearts (1975), Hideaway (1976), Harbor (1977), and Live (1977) in a single box, which makes for a whole lot of America. That's great if you love them, and way too much if you don't. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
