  • Juntos Para Siempre Notes

After being apart for 50 years; "Juntos Por Siempre" (Together Forever) brings Bebo & Chucho Valdés (father & son) together again. Bebo Valdés was born on October 9 of 1918. Chucho was born on the same day of 1941. Just turning 90 and 67 years respectively, the best birthday gift that each could give each other was to record this very unique and exceptional disc. Both virtuosos in their own right, "Juntos Por Siempre" begins with a composition by Chucho Valdés in a classical style and with overtones of French impressionism that leads us to a very Jazz and Latin influenced recording.

Winner of 5 Grammys, Chucho Valdés is widely world known as the founder, pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger of the Group "Irakere", one of Cuba's best-known and highly regarded Latin Jazz bands which he founded in 1972.

Also a recipient of 5 Grammy’s; Bebo Valdés, pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger was a central figure in the golden age of Cuban music. He led two famous big bands, and was one of the 'house' arrangers for the Tropicana Club. Bebo’s first marriage produced five children, one of which is Chucho. Bebo left Cuba for Mexico in 1960 and briefly lived in the United States before moving to Stockholm, where he lived until 2007.

This most historic recording carries rich overtones of traditional Afro-Cuban music. Bebo & Chucho also manage to seamlessly fuse Blues with Traditional Jazz like no other two Latin Jazz pianists have ever done before.

"Juntos Para Siempre" begins with “Preludio para Bebo" (Prelude for Bebo) written by Chucho, and featuring such standards as “Tea for Two", the anthemic Cuban standard "Son de La Loma", "La Gloria Eres Tu, "Sabor A Mi", "Perdido", and of course "Lagrimas Negras" which over the course of the last few years has become synonymous with Bebo as a result of his Grammy Award winning album of the same name.
