Part of a series involving artists ranging from Billie Holiday to Air Supply, Frank Sinatra's From the Heart is undoubtedly a Valentine's Day compilation. That said, its sole aim is to air the most romantic songs in the catalog of a singer who could make love sound warm and tender, wonderful and refreshing, or utterly natural. Nevertheless, compiler Didier C. Deutsch appears to have exercised some discernment, removing several songs from the playlist that would normally have been sure inclusions -- "I Only Have Eyes for You," "I've Got a Crush on You," "Everybody Loves Somebody" -- and including several songs that don't fit the format quite as well (but still offer early Sinatra at his best), such as "Laura," "Autumn in New York," and "Begin the Beguine." Those unfamiliar with Frank Sinatra's career should recognize that this is no career-spanning compilation; it includes only tracks from his Columbia years, during the 1940s. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
