Lyrics from 1944-1945
All Music Guide Review
The second collection of transcriptions from a period when the musicians union strike resulted in no commercial recordings being made, this set (which is actually superior to the first volume) features Lester Young back with Count Basie in 1944. Trumpeter Harry Edison, trombonist Dickie Wells, Buddy Tate on tenor and Basie all have their strong moments and it is nice to hear the orchestra playing such fresh material, some of which they never got around to recording commercially. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
