This is Louis Bellson's collaboration with Billy Cobham. Some of the material here was performed live and released as a video. The arrangements are likable, but the obvious intent here is to amaze and delight those enamored with virtuosic drumming. The duels between Cobham and Bellson are intense and demonstrate their differences in technique. Cobham's approach is sheer power based on instinct, while Bellson's is more carefully planned and played with flawless precision. The two separate solos are both excellent, and Bellson seemed to be even more inspired than usual. This is moderately recommended for jazz fans, but should be required listening for all drummers. ~ Robert Taylor, Rovi
