Twenty songs from the mid-'50s, both solo and with the Flairs. Richard Berry wrote or co-wrote most of the tunes, which are solid if somewhat generic R&B on the verge of rock & roll, occasionally treading into doo wop territory. He's most memorable on the up-tempo, comic-jiving numbers, with a sardonic and sassy tone that pointed the way for the Coasters. This doesn't have "Louie Louie" or any of the late-'50s material he recorded for the Flip label, which is available on the hard-to-find Swedish import Louie Louie. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
