All Music Guide Review

A longtime studio musician, clarinetist Phil Bodner has led relatively few jazz sessions throughout his lengthy career. Other than a couple of obscure dates for Camden during 1964-65, this Stash album was his first as a leader, and he was already 61 at the time. Although a multireedist, Bodner sticks to his favorite instrument (the clarinet) on the ten standards. Six are with pianist Marty Napoleon, bassist Rick Laird and drummer Butch Miles while the other four utilize pianist Tony Monte, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Mel Lewis; Don Elliot makes one of his last recordings on mellophone during a cooking rendition of "It Had To Be You." This is a pleasing swing set. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
