All Music Guide Review

After gaining a sizable audience with his debut album, Gutta, Ace Hood returned just seven months later with a more polished follow-up, the mistitled Ruthless. For those desiring the more radio-friendly side of the gruff rapper, the album offers plenty of bedroom numbers and club tracks along with a big list of superstar guests, including Akon, Lloyd, Rick Ross, and T-Pain. For everyone else, this is too much too soon and awfully inconsistent, with some swagger numbers succeeding splendidly (the highly infectious "Loco with the Cake" or maybe "Born an OG," with Ludacris in full party mode) while others just fail (the bland "Champion"). To his credit, Hood dominates "Overtime" even with Akon and T-Pain as guests, and on the closing "Make a Toast" he brings the guts, sounding like the unforgiving victor he was on Gutta. If the sound quality were rougher and the attitude looser, this would come off as one of those mixtapes where collabos and lesser tracks pacify the faithful in between official albums. The casual listener should just check the hits. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi

Ruthless Notes

Born Antoine McColister in Broward County, Florida, Ace knew he was destined for greatness. After an injury derailed his burgeoning football career, Ace turned to his true passion, rapping. At the age of 17, Ace teamed up with the Broward-County-based entertainment label, Dollaz & Dealz, to record the hit "M.O.E." ("Money Over Everything") which sparked an immediate buzz in South Florida. Ace began to perform and network which helped him gain exposure like never before. After fine-tuning his craft on local crowds, he set his sights on performing for DJ Khaled at his annual birthday bash.

"I got the name Ace as a child. My family always thought that I would be the one who would succeed in whatever I did," he explains. "I feel like I'm an army in myself. I carry my own weight and since I represent for the hood, why not attach that to my name?"

A year after his debut album "Gutta" and his Top 10 hit "Ride" Ace Hood continues his quest for hip hop greatness. "Ruthless" marks the return of Ace Hood with the new explosive single "Overtime" featuring Akon and T Pain.

Executive Produced by DJ Khaled and co-executive produced by The Runners, "Ruthless" promises to show the growth and trials Ace has experienced since his debut album thrust him onto the rap world.

Featured guest appearances on the album include Jasmine Sullivan, The Dream, Ludacris, Rick Ross, Birdman and more!
