Whether one considers the 30-minute CD Lies an EP or a maxi-single (it's hard to think of something lasting a half hour as a single), this is a release that only the most diehard EMF fans will want. Four mixes of the decent but not fantastic "Lies" (including three extended dance-oriented remixes and a shorter, radio-oriented version) are hardly essential. Also included is "Head the Ball," a decent techno number that worked well in club settings. The best thing about Lies is an inspired live version of Cream's 1960s classic "Strange Brew," which proves surprisingly appropriate for EMF's brash, punky style. In fact, "Strange Brew" is stronger than most of the material on Schubert Dip. But even so, Lies isn't a release that casual listeners should go out of their way to obtain. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
