1999's Zohar is a culmination of sorts for Uri Caine, bringing together not only his background in classical and jazz music but his Jewish heritage and interest in electronic music as well. Sephardic/Moroccan singer Aaron Bensoussan and DJ Olive are among the creative minds at work here, making music that is imbued with soulful rhythms, technical grace, and spirituality. Samples flow in and out of the guitar, bass and piano trio, while Bensoussan's voice glides and lilts atop the music.
