Teriyaki Asthma VI-X brings together the last five volumes of the Teriyaki Asthma series of 7" compilations -- each a collection of four of C/Z Records' favorite up and coming bands. The Teriyaki Asthma series has a long and dignified history in the Seattle music scene -- volume one of the series, issued in 1989, featured the first ever release of Nirvana: their song "Mexican Seafood," which would later appear on their album Insecticide. Many other great artists were included on the first five volumes of Teriyaki Asthma, including Babes in Toyland, L7, Alice Donut and Helios Creed. This collection spans the albums from the mid-'90s and also contains an impressive collection of artists. This album largely features punk/grunge music from the Seattle area, but is remarkable for the exceptions to the rule, including surf rock from MX-80, a sweet and noisy cover of "There She Goes" by Superconductor, an spacey instrumental piece called "Wally and the Ghost" from TFUL #282, and the funky techno-noise of "Caitlin Burns" by Unrest. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide
