If the double-disc Original Salsoul Classics isn't enough to satisfy your hunger for one of the most productive and emblematic disco labels that existed, the three-volume Salsoul Essential series is tough to top; each set consists of two discs, with the selections typically provided in extended 12" format -- the way they should be enjoyed. Each volume smartly balances undeniable classics with lesser-known (and often almost as wonderful) tracks. This volume is pretty heavy on Loleatta Holloway ("Mama Don't, Papa Won't," "Hit and Run"), Salsoul Orchestra ("You're Just the Right Size," "Salsoul 3001," "Ooh I Love It"), and Double Exposure ("Everyman," "My Love Is Free"). Other significant inclusions: First Choice's "Double Cross," Instant Funk's "I Got My Mind Made Up," Joe Bataan's "The Bottle," and Love Committee's "Just as Long as I've Got You." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
