Lyrics from Dick (Virgin)
All Music Guide Review
Accompanying the nostalgic 70s comedy Dick (about two bumbling teenage girls who somehow uncover the Watergate Scandal), this soundtrack is a hodge-podge of 70s pop, rock and soul hits with an updated version of Abba's "Dancing Queen" covered by alternative hitmakers Sixpence None the Richer thrown in for good measure. Like most current songtracks there's no real theme here, the songs share nothing in common (subject matter nor style) that would suggest their inclusion, other than the fact that they were hits in the 70s. Yet, unlike the multi-platinum Big Chill soundtrack which launched the back catalogue feeding frenzy that Dick is taking its cues from, the Dick soundtrack doesn't have the power to create any sort of generational flashback and, thus, comes off like a 70s sampler in a late night TV ad. ~ Steve Kurutz, All Music Guide
