Laidlaw received some valuable assistance from Mötley Crüe, not only gaining national exposure as their opening act on tour in 1998-99, but also signing with Nikki Sixx's Americoma imprint for their debut album, First Big Picnic. The band's tuneful hard rock isn't really anything groundbreaking, but it is pretty well done; even if there are a few weak tracks, that's to be expected on a debut album. Bands don't have to be entirely original to be solid performers, and Laidlaw sets themselves up nicely for further excursions into this category. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
