    All Music Guide Review

    Hip Bop'n Smooth is a 13-track sampler of the Hip Bop catalog, featuring highlights from their biggest artists including Tom Browne, Urbanator, Lenny White, Dave McMurray, Essence All-Stars, Michael "Patches" Stewart, and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Although there are a couple of exclusive cuts here, this is essentially for neophytes who want to explore the smooth jazz label. Listeners who are averse to the smooth jazz tag may be surprised that some of this gets a little funky (Smith, in particular), but chances are they won't be won over by the majority of this disc. However, those listeners whose tastes lean in that direction will likely find things to enjoy here, and perhaps some artists to investigate further. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
