All Music Guide Review

They've probably gotten awfully tired of being compared to Living Colour, but let's face it: they were asking for it from day one. Follow For Now's sound is equal parts Living Colour, Public Enemy and Bad Brains, all which would have been a little less obvious if singer David Harris didn't take so many of his vocal cues from Cory Glover. But really, that's not a criticism -- Follow For Now is a tight, hard, very funky band that stands easily on its own despite obvious influences. From the gutbucket funk rock of "Holy Moses" to the punk-Motown kick of "Evil Wheel," Follow For Now manages to wave its influences proudly without ever sounding really derivative. They even dust off their wah-wah pedals and serve up some retrofunk on tunes like "Ms. Fortune" and "Temptation." And that's not even mentioning the Public Enemy cover (an excellent version of "She Watch Channel Zero"). Maybe they don't have the most original sound on the planet right now, but who does on a debut album? This is an auspicious debut for such a young group. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
