Mastered by Chris Stamey, the Mayflies USA's eponymous debut EP echoes the sort of tuneful, intelligent Southern power pop that Stamey's dB's epitomized, along with traces of classic bands like Big Star, the Beatles, and Let's Active, plus the more indie sounds of the Posies, Teenage Fanclub, and Superchunk. While the band sounds largely derivative of their influences rather than offering anything refreshingly new, it is promisingly well done.
