The Harlem Gospel Choir's second album includes several tracks recorded at the Fukuoka Blue Note in Japan. Unfortunately, the quality of the live tracks leaves something to be desired. Despite this technical shortcoming, the album features some tremendous solo vocal work from certain female members of the choir. Another highlight is the group's arrangement of traditional music like "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Every Time I Feel the Spirit," and "Babethandaza." The groove laid on "When the Saints Go Marching In" is especially creative and dynamic. Bervin Harris' new material, "Strong Soldier" and "Reach," is very well done and will only add to his reputation as an up-and-coming player in the contemporary gospel scene. HGC's driving power remains the female component, which includes a number of mighty sopranos and mezzo-sopranos. ~ Philip Van Vleck, All Music Guide
