All Music Guide Review

Built to Spill's "Keep It Like a Secret" just might be one of the most overlooked mainstream releases of 1999. Given the ironically titled album, could it have been the band's intention? Releasing a single or two from the album could either be an attempt to appeal to a mass audience outside of the indie-rock realm, or a clever scheme to distribute their unreleased B-sides to die-hard fans. The two unreleased songs from the "secret" album sessions are basically loosely thrown together songs accompanied by wah-wah pedals and a hint of cellos. Of the four remaining tracks, two have been taken from "Keep It Like a Secret," while the other two are live versions of songs that have appeared on previous albums. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
