Lyrics from Rockin' 70's, Vol. 3
All Music Guide Review
Rockin' 70's, Vol. 3, focuses on the lightweight, novelty side of the '70s rock scene. It contains classic radio staples like Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" and a whole batch of weird one-off hits and oddities. There is really no flow or overall thematic clarity, but there are some great songs; the Buoys' ghastly "Timothy," Santa Esmeralda's silly disco remake of "House of the Rising Sun," the Tee Set's "Ma Belle Amie," and the Bellamy Brother's smarmy "(If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body) Would You Hold It Against Me." You have to admire any disc that contains both the Marshall Tucker Band's "Fire on the Mountain" and the Pipkins' "Gimme Dat Ding" (best known as the theme to the Benny Hill show). This is a fine low-cost way to sample some of the craziness of the '70s. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
