All Music Guide Review

One of the pop groups who seemed to be ignored by the mainstream press in the '90s was the Real McCoy, the dance-pop trio who had several big club and radio hits from their Another Night album. This collection, consisting of mostly songs from that album, is a greatest-hits album crossed with a B-sides collection. Several tracks here are rather obscure, while others were unavoidable hit singles. "Another Night" is the biggest thing they have ever done; with its charming hooks, instantly recognizable keyboard part, and infectious rhythm, it might be one of the best dance songs to emerge out of the techno-pop explosion. "Automatic Lover (Call for Love)" was a smaller hit; it was more club-friendly and found its audience among the young dance crowds before moving to radio. "Runaway" was yet another big hit for them, ending a hot streak of singles that also included a cover of "Come and Get Your Love," which isn't included here. The other songs come nowhere close to the success of these tracks, but they are all fine examples of the catchy, repetitive techno-pop they craft so well. Anyone who enjoyed the three hits included here will probably find songs like "Operator" equally as engaging. Nothing here comes close to being original or brilliant, but almost better is the fact that they shamelessly craft pure pop music, a dirty job in the grunge-infested waters of 1995. This is a guilt-free display of great dance music, and should appeal to anyone who already likes their radio hits. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
