Like the first two volumes of Frat Rock!, Grandson of Frat Rock!, Vol. 3 contains 18 terrific rock & roll and R&B singles from the '60s. There are a few singles from major artists -- Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode," and Del Shannon's "Do You Want to Dance?," Ray Charles' "What'd I Say, Pt. 1," the Isley Brothers' "Twist and Shout," and "Shout, Pts. 1 & 2," and, inexplicably, Roger Miller's "Chug-a-Lug" -- but the primary value of the set is that it collects one-hit wonders like "Hang On Sloopy," "I Want Candy," "Surfin' Bird," "Tequila," "Liar, Liar," "Dirty Water," "Bread and Butter," "Gimme, Gimme Good Lovin'," and "Shake a Tail Feather," great singles by artists who never made great albums. And while this disc has its flaws, it's still one of the best ways to collect all of these songs at once. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
