The majority of the Detroit artists on this CD compilation -- such as Recloose, Ectomorph, and DJ Assault -- have proved themselves as leaders of the latest wave of techno artists to emerge from the genre's birthplace in the late '90s. Unfortunately, the quality of the music isn't as impressive as the roster of artists. Some of the tracks here could really turn out a party with their funky beats and deep basslines, but others get dull after a few listens, making one wonder if some of these tracks are outtakes. Of the better tracks on Comin' From tha D, those by Terrence Parker, Dan Bell, and Disco D deserve attention. Full of energy and spunk, Parker's "Come On! Take Me!" is some of the best material the renowned DJ has ever produced, using some of the better attributes of disco-house music while carefully sprinkling in hip-hop-style scratching. Overall though, Comin' From tha D may have some talented artists and a few great tracks, but it fails as a representation of ghettotech, seeming more like a sampler platter of techno, electro, house, and drum'n'bass tracks that seldom merge these conventions like ghettotech is suppose to. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
