The 1981 animated motion picture Heavy Metal (from the creators of the publication by the same name) is a certifiable cult classic, full of imaginative visuals, unpredictable storylines, and an all-star soundtrack. The only problem was, not all of the musical artists could be classified as true heavy metal, such as Devo, Stevie Nicks, Journey, and Donald Fagen, among others. But the 2000 sequel, Heavy Metal FAKK2, comes with a truer heavy metal soundtrack. Comprised of music from both established bands and newcomers, there's a little bit of everything for most 21st century headbangers. Included are tracks from such renowned heavy hitters as Pantera ("Immortally Insane"), Monster Magnet ("Silver Future"), and Machine Head ("Alcoholocaust"), as well as such newer acts as Queens of the Stone Age, System of a Down, Hate Dept, Puya, and Coal Chamber. Like the original, a few non-heavy metal bands slip through the cracks (Billy Idol, Bauhaus), but by and large, Heavy Metal FAKK2 lives up to its title. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
