Imagine a compilation of some of the best indie rock guitar players from the late '80s and early '90s performing strictly guitar instrumentals, no bass, drums or vocals. That is precisely what you'll find on the compilation Guitarrorists released by No.6 Records in 1991. Featuring a veritable who's who of underground guitar players from the time period, the album delivers a wide variety of experimental guitar soundscapes. Through the echo chamber ambient drone of Thurston Moore's "Blues for Space Girl" to the poppy acoustic/electric buildup of J. Mascis' "A Little Ethnic Song" and the face-pealing distortion of Paul Leary's "Fillipé Mepelpeepe," the listener is transported on a note-bending psychedelic journey of the audible senses. Other tracks range from Marc Gentry's classical acoustic-style fingerpicking on "Mariposa" to the explosive squealing feedback of Helios Creed's spaced out backwards guitar on "Green Volcano." All 26 tracks fit together perfectly and should excite the sonic palate of anyone looking for a different take on guitar music. ~ Chris Taylor, All Music Guide
