    All Music Guide Review

Buddy Tate came to prominence in the Count Basie Orchestra and this 20 track collection features some of his best work with the band and under his own name. Replacing the late Herschel Evans in 1939, Tate cut some classic tracks with Basie, including "Rock-a-Bye Basie," "Riff Interlude," "Gone With What Wind," and "Playhouse No. 2 Stomp," which is based on "I Got Rhythm." Following his stint in Basie's band, Tate went on relatively late in the game and the following six tracks were issued under his own name with two stray tracks from the late '40s with Karl George and Skip Hall rounding out this excellently swinging collection. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
