The second volume in the Soul from the Cities series culls a dozen tracks from one of the best soul labels in Chicago's history (Brunswick) and adds four songs from Chi-Sound Records. Except for two tracks (Young Holt Unlimited's "Soulful Strut," Gene Chandler's "Rainbow '80"), these aren't necessarily the biggest soul hits to come out of the Windy City. Instead, Richmond compiled solid, rarer tracks by top-level artists like the Impressions (1979's "Come to My Party"), the Chi-Lites ("The Man and the Woman"), Jackie Wilson (1971's "The Girl Turned Me On"), Barbara Acklin ("Lady Lady Lady"), and even swing-era star Lionel Hampton ("There It Is"). (Soul impresario Babyface even makes a teenaged appearance on Manchild's "Especially for You.") ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
