King's X

In the late '90s, King's X issued a home video available only through their Web site, titled Then.... The video sold out quickly, and fans who missed out on the initial run were out of luck -- until the band's label, Metal Blade, reissued the video in 2000. Just like the title says, Then... explores the band's early days, starting from their very beginning and ending with their first record contract (to Megaforce Records). While all the clips and still images are vintage, the narration from the bandmembers is from a late-'90s interview session. And while the video proves to be very well put together and interesting, no songs are featured in their entirety (only brief highlights), and the running time is quite short -- just under 25 minutes. Strangely, all of the songs featured are compositions that never appeared on any later albums by King's X. Still, longtime fans of the trio will definitely enjoy Then.... ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
