Compiled by Zachary Richard himself, this collection gathers many of the Cajun rebel's best recordings. There's a wonderful mix of songs here -- most of them written or co-written by Richard -- but it's on slow ballads like "Dear Darling," "Les Ailes des Hirondelles," and "La Berceuse Creole" that Richard's voice is shown to best effect. The collection also includes stompers like "Flammes D'Enfer," "Zack's Bon Ton," and "Snake Bit Love," as well as a few waltzes. Richard is backed by the best players in the biz, including Michael Doucet, Sonny Landreth, Bessyl Duhon, and Dana Breaux, among many others. Despite liner notes written entirely in French, this does a beautiful job of sampling Richard's best work thus far, and certainly deserves a place in any self-respecting Cajun/zydeco collection. ~ Bob Gottlieb, All Music Guide
