The 2000 edition of Teenbeat Records' annual compilation series begins with "The Garden" by Panax, featuring Bridget Cross, formerly of Unrest. This seductive and catchy pop song is followed by "Chicoutimi" by Flin Flon, featuring Unrest's Mark Robinson. The 22-track disc features some of Teenbeat's finest bands, including True Love Always, Hot Pursuit, the Rondelles, and Phil Krauth. Aden offers up the festive "Sampler Song," while Aden's Kevin Baker also appears with Currituck County, which is featured on "Concrete Vs. Water," a fingerpicking acoustic folk-tinged track. Seven bonus tracks are featured at the end, including Robert Schipul's piano-based "Storm in August," Butch Willis & the Rocks' manic "The Girls on My Mind," the Feminine Complex's experimental "Time Slips By," and Mark Robinson's minimalist audio collage "Taste." Teenbeat Sampler: 2000 features some of indie rock's versatile bands on one of independent music's most diverse record labels. ~ Stephen Cramer, All Music Guide
