Pig

Like most of the releases from Pig- a.k.a. Raymond Watts- Prime Evil is a mixture of original tracks and remixes, with an odd cover version included as well. This isn't always a bad thing, since Watts manages to recruit just the right people- in particular KMFDM- to re-arrange his work. However, it doesn't always work out that well. Ken Ishii's remix of "Wrecked" is pedestrian to say the least, possessing none of the power of the original. With only two tracks coming in at under six minutes it's not hard to get bored of the endless repetition, since there simply isn't enough ideas to warrant stretching the songs out that far. If it'd been half the length, "Keeper of the Margarita" would have been a great song, but as it is, it's just annoying. A bizarre industrial cover of Black Sabbath's "Warpigs" doesn't help either. Admittedly the title track is a fine slab of gothic menace, but too much of Prime Evil reeks of self-indulgence. ~ Jim Harper, All Music Guide
