Jeff Foxworthy's first album for DreamWorks, Big Funny, is also his first standup record not to rely heavily on redneck-themed material. Of course, Foxworthy doesn't completely abandon it, although he does seem to acknowledge that it's time to move on in the title of the bit "I Thought I'd Heard Every Redneck Thing"; there's also a hilarious, well-done impression of stock car driver Jeff Gordon, mimicking how difficult it is to understand any comments given in post-race interviews. But for the most part, Foxworthy concentrates on family life, gently and good-naturedly poking fun at gender differences in marriage and the pitfalls of child-rearing. It's subject matter that's been covered many a time, but Foxworthy's droll delivery will make Big Funny well worth the time of his fans. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
