    All Music Guide Review

Direct Source's Let It Rock 1986 gathers up 12 songs from that year. The set includes some of the year's biggest hits split almost 50-50 between FM-friendly pop/rock and smooth urban sounds. The pop contingent is led by one-hit wonders like Timbuk 3 ("The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades") and Robbie Nevil ("C'Est la Vie"), seasoned vets like Joe Cocker ("Shelter Me") and Robert Palmer ("Addicted to Love"), and good old Billy Idol ("To Be a Lover"). Apart from a rocky foray into rap with Run-D.M.C.'s "Walk This Way," the disc is loaded down with crooners like Gregory Abbott ("Shake You Down") and Billy Ocean ("There'll Be Sad Songs [To Make You Cry]") and smoothies like Sly Fox ("Let's Go All the Way") and Midnight Star ("Midas Touch"). Although it is too brief and leaves out a great deal of what was going on that year, the collection does serve nicely as a low-priced intro to the sounds of 1986. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
