    All Music Guide Review

Direct Source's Let It Rock 1990 is a 12-track look at the chart pop of the year in question. The tracks are drawn from a wide variety of sources and include both big and very minor hits. Sinéad O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U," Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby," and MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" are the true smashes here, Technotronic's Pump Up the Jam was also pretty inescapable. The set also grabs some hair metal from Poison ("Something to Believe In") and Slaughter ("Up All Night"), mainstream rock from "the Smithereens" ("A Girl Like You"), and glossy radio pop from Nelson ("(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection") and Wilson Phillips ("Release Me"). The set is too brief and too limited in scope to be a true picture of what was happening musically in 1990, but on the other hand, it does provide a low-priced introduction. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
