This solo outing by Paddy Goes to Holyhead frontman Harald Schmidt allows him to completely devote his efforts to his longtime passion for traditional music, particularly Irish songs. An intimate and unplugged recording, Wiskey & Women is comprised primarily of slow to medium-tempo songs dealing with the fairer sex and the juice of the barley. Despite it's recording studio origins, this album has a live coffeehouse aura about it. Schmidt is the sole performer here; in addition to his weathered yet warm baritone voice, he plays acoustic guitar and harmonica. In a year (1999) during which there were no releases by Paddy Goes to Holyhead, this was a welcome alternative. ~ Dave Sleger, Rovi
