Trained in art and design at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, George W. Davis was signed by 20th Century Fox in the mid-'40s. Davis remained with Fox as a set designer until 1959, winning Academy awards for The Robe (1953) and The Diary of Anne Frank (1959). He moved to MGM upon the retirement of Cedric Gibbons.
