This budget-priced attempt at a war epic is short on invention and verisimilitude but long on cut-rate action. The script for The Last Hunter shamelessly lifts plot elements and scene ideas from Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter, yet still struggles to pad out its slender story line (there are lots of scenes of guys shooting at each other while cursing).
